The North Face Endurance Challenge 50K

The North Face Endurance Challenge, my longest distance to date. I finished 15 out of 53 finishers. 7th in my age group out of 17. My official chip time was 5:43:48. My Garmin Forerunner time was 5:33:18. I stopped my Garmin whenever I stopped at aid stations to refill my water bottles and rehydrate. I wasn't used to the humidity and hills. It really took it out of me at the end but I managed to finish.

For complete results of the 50K,  checkout KaleRunning.com . I think I was more excited about meeting Dean Karnazes than I was about finishing the race.

Congratulations on a great race.  For your first 59K that's a good time.  Those humid hilly courses are a real bugger.  How did you feel the next day?  Did you get to talk to Dean?  He's a really nice guy.

Brian, does this mean you want to run a 50K with me next week? :-)

Ha! 50k ? I think not. I am seriously thinking about the half marathon in sept. It's in Holland so that's not too far. https://www.signmeup.com/site/reg/register.aspx?fid=NY2VFK7 . More details: http://www.neighborsplus.org/Park2Park2007.htm

Hey McBeev, how about the detroit half marathon instead?  I'll be doing the full and i'm trying to talk gryzan into one of shorter distances.  A woman I've talked to mentioned the park 2 park.  How about we both run both???

I felt pretty good the next day considering I sat on a plane for 7 hours after the race on Saturday night flying back to the UK. I banged my toe on a rock about mile 14 and it started to bleed but I kept running and it eventually stopped. I wasn't prepared for a 50K trail run. I thought it was going to be mixed trail/flat surface race but the entire course was trail with just a very short flat surface area. I'm used to running on flat surfaces here in the UK with NO HUMIDITY!

Dean was really nice. I got to see him finish the 50 mile race. I talked to him at the post race celebration BBQ. I thought this race would put me off running for a while considering how I felt crossing the finish line but I found myself searching the web yesterday for another 50K  Surprise

laurel2k, it's just not a trail ultra unless one of your toenails turns black!  Welcome to the ultra trail club.  Let me warn you it's highly addictive!  The only thing more fun then a trail 50K is a trail 50 miler.  September 15th North County Trail Run near Manistee Michigan is a great 50 miler for hills.  There is also a trail marathon if you're interested.  I'll be there.  Again, congratulation on a great run!

No races for me until at least October. I'm currently in Senegal and will be here for the next 7 weeks working. My running miles will be down this month compared to last month. I haven't gone out for a run yet but hope to do so tomorrow. I need to map out a few routes so I don't get bored running the same one while I'm here. I will be traveling to Texas in October and I'm currently looking for a race to possibly run while there.
