I added orthotics, rather then insoles, about two years ago and they have made a world of difference. They have greatly reduced blisters, stabilized my foot strike, and improved stability.  In addition I can now wear many types of running shoes I couldn't wear before reducing the cost of shoes.  The down side is that they are expensive, $200 - $250.  If you have a Podiatrist and they will give you a prescription your insurance may pay for it.  Don't get the ones from your Podiatrist but go to Biocorrect Orthotics Lab in Kentwood .  They are wonderful and their orthotics seem to last forever.  Good luck.
